One of the best things about being a part of the Viking Ski Club is staying in our Donner Summit cabin. Nestled right in between Sugarbowl and Donner Ski Ranch, and a short drive to Lake Tahoe, it’s the perfect spot for easy access to some of the best slopes in California — and great summertime activities too.

Our cabin’s structure is actually a World War II Quonset hut, acquired and erected by club members in 1948. Over the decades, several additions were made to the hut, expanding the space to include a large kitchen and as well as an additional living room (a.k.a. “the party room”). It is a homey, welcoming facility that provides space to socialize, prepare and eat meals together, and rest after an active day outdoors.

Ski Storage Room

Our ski storage room provides a place to stash your ski and snowboard gear, as well as a workspace for waxing or adjusting your equipment.

Party Room

In the party room, kick back and relax on the couches and enjoy the warmth of the fire in the woodburning stove. Read a book, enjoy a beverage, or gather a group to play a game—we have many available at the cabin for you to enjoy.

Kitchen

Our VSC kitchen is a point of pride, with two electric stoves with ovens, two sinks, and two grand tables to seat members and guests for meals. Lots of fun and laughter over those tables! A large suite of food lockers provide organized storage so that members can bring their own food and make full use of the kitchen for preparing and eating meals. But leave your pots and pans at home—our kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, dishware, cutlery, utensils, kitchen towels, coffee makers, toasters, a microwave, and a refrigerator. All guests who use the kitchen are expected to clean up after themselves and leave the space as they found it: neat, tidy, and clean.

Solarium

Our upstairs living room is known as the Solarium, due to the afternoon sun which beams in through the window. The Solarium is a nice, cozy space with another woodburning stove, and a lovely view of Donner Ski Ranch, Sugar Bowl, and mountain

Women's Dorm

The women’s dorm has comfortable, wood-frame single beds. Notice the curved walls—the original quonset hut!

The women’s dorm is connected to the women’s bathroom (2 showers, 2 sinks, 2 toilets).

Men's Dorm

The Men’s Dorm has single beds and bunkbeds. The Men’s Annex, a room added to the Men’s Dorm, is specifically for snorers.

The men’s dorm is connected to the men’s bathroom (2 showers, 2 sinks, 2 toilets).

We also have 4 smaller bedrooms, available for families or couples.

CABIN POLICIES

As a shared, communal space, our cabin relies on the respect and consideration of all members and guests—towards each other, and towards the space. Expectations are that everyone cleans up after themselves in a timely manner, and leaves the space neat, tidy, and clean. With each stay at the cabin, each guest is assigned a chore to complete before they leave. In this way we are able to maintain a warm and welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable and is able to enjoy their stay.

Guests bring their own bedding (sleeping bags or bedrolls) and bath towels.
